  • Condition: This Violin is in solid condition I can find no breaks or cracks or repaired cracks. It looks like it may have been reglued at some time in the past on the seems, and it has a replacement metal tailpiece. The tuning pegs, saddle and fingerboard are ebony and may be original. It had some tape on the fingerboard for a student I tried to remove as much of the residue as I could. The top is spruce and the back and sides are fiddle back maple as is the neck .. The finish is only present in part, time and use must have taken their toll on it. It is possible that someone tried to do some refinishing to this at sometime along the way. See pictures I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. See pictures they should give a good idea of its cond. !!!!

    Description

CIRCA 1800's  W.M. SINCLAIR  VIOLIN FRITZ KRISTLER STRADIVARIUS IN GOOD CONDITION
This Violin was likely made in England or Scotland in the late 1800's. It is a 4/4 size violin. This has what may be some of the original finish.
Their is a  label inside the violin it appears to be hand written. It reads
    Fritz Kristler
    Stradivarius
    Made by W.M. Sinclair
I don't see a date anywhere and no other words or writing  that I can see. William Sinclair was a builder of violins in the 1800's in England or Scotland and from what I read he built only about 40 instruments.  He was born in 1836 and died in the early part of the 1900's  This is believed to be one of his instruments.
Fritz Kreisler was a famous  violinist born in 1875 and he was performing in his very early teens. This Violin may have been built for him or may have just been built to resemble one of his  instruments I do not know. It was in the same family for over 50 years. Who owned it before that time, I have no way of knowing.
Comes in and old case but probably not the original case 2 latches work and the other one does not work.  The case is in well used  condition,  no bow is included.  I can find records for 4 of these  that have been sold since the 1980's My price is based on these sales and the possible collector value of such and instrument. It is believed   that William Sinclair only built about 40 instruments in his life time.
If you are reading this listing and viewing this instrument you may already know what this violin is and who made it and you may likely know more than I do about it..
It has been repaired to some extent somewhere in it past. I think it is a solid instrument but to meet your requirements it may need to be refinished or refurbished  it is being sold as is.
I have played it and although I am not a Violin expert I am not without some knowledge and I would consider it a playable instrument as it is in my shop. I also had a friend who is a very good player play it he felt it was a fine playable instrument. It should be ready to play, but shipping can be hard on any instrument and how and instrument is handled is really out of my control so this is sold as is No returns No refunds.I do my very best to pack ever instrument so it can survive a trip but if it is shipped how it is handled is out of my control.  If you want a guarantee consider picking it up at my shop in the upper mid west I will guarantee it will be in the condition I describe  here at my shop and that is my guarantee no guarantee's outside the door of  my shop.  Please read the condition description at the top of the page for condition.
