    Description

For your consideration I offer this 1799 bronzed medal in honor of William Pitt. Listed as BHM 470 it is large at about 54mm. I believe it is a proof strike with some minimal handling. The obverse has Pitt facing to his right with legend around describing his accomplishments in office. When this medal was issued he had proposed an income tax to help pay for the prolonged war with France that was having a severe impact on the budget. It was not well received by many, but saved the country from disaster. The reverse legend within an oak wreath "With Fortitude Wisdom And Integrity He Serves A Prosperous Nation And A Virtuous King" 1799 Aged 40. by Hancock.
This was once part of my anti slavery collection as Pitt was a proponent of ending that horrible business and lectured often against it.
I am always open to offers on any of my listings. Just ask. Worst thing is I say no.
